Mixed Exhibitions

A few samples of works that have been produced for other exhibitions or projects.

Pip

A commission to commemorate the life of Pip. Constructed cheifly from teabag paper, the shirt is full size and resides in an acrylic case constructed for it. The piece features many of his documents from lists to blueprints, telegrams, old pencil stubs, cigarette boxes and razor packets. Pip was an aircraft engineer and he worked on aircraft carriers, many of the islands he visited are depicted here as are some of his photos. Japan was an important part of this families history and so the stitching techniques of 'boro' have been used to decorate and to piece bits of history together.

Cinders

Cinders - Josie Beszant
Much of my work stems from the female archetype, and the dress is a recurring theme. This piece references a shedding of a skin, a remnant of something left behind but treasured none the less.

Thursday's Child

Picture
Based on the poem:
Monday's child is fair of face,
Tuesday's child is full of grace,
Wednesday's child is full of woe,
Thursday's child has far to go,
Friday's child works hard for a living,
Saturday's child is loving and giving,
But the child that is born on the sabbath day is bonny, blithe, good and gay.

Shortlisted for the Adrian Henri Poetry in Art Prize 2013.

The Messenger

The Messenger - Josie Beszant
The messenger contains a powerful discarded envelope bearing the words "killed in action" above the address. Birds are often seen in mythology as the messengers between life and death and here can been seen to take on some of the characteristics of the message.

Everyone Sang
